02 Let’s Stop Burning Garbage
As a rule, burning garbage and leaves in open lots, drum barrels, or compact incinerators is prohibited. Garbage and leaves can be burned only in incinerators that fulfill standards designated by law and city ordinances. Violators will be fined.
The reason behind this law is that such illegal burning creates smoke and odors that are a nuisance to the community and contribute to air pollution.
Let’s follow the rules for handling garbage properly. Please try to utilize fallen leaves—which are particularly abundant at this time of year—by, for example, making compost. If you must throw them away, please dispose of them as combustible garbage. Furthermore, please note that there is a fee if you dispose of a large amount of garbage at one time. Please call the Nakano City Waste Management Office (Tel: 3387-5353 [in Japanese], Fax: 3387-5389) in advance for consultation.
