Regulations Regarding Employment

When foreign nationals enter and stay in Japan to be employed or to work, the regulations regarding these activities are prescribed in "the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act".

Foreign nationals with the following eligibilities for the status of residence are allowed to work in the country.

1.Eligibility for being employed regardless of occupation and/or industry

"Permanent resident", "Spouse of a Japanese person", "Spouse of a permanent resident", "Long term resident"

Individuals with the eligibilities described above are allowed to be employed in any field and/or change their jobs in Japan without any restrictions.

2.Eligibility for being employed within specific categories of occupation, industry, and working conditions

"Professor", "Art", "Religion", "Media", "Investment/business management", "Legal and accounting practices", "Medical services", "Research", "Education", "Technology", "Liberal arts and international business", "In-house transfer of personnel", "Entertainment", "Skills", "Specific activities"
(The work permitted in Japan is limited to activities such as working holiday and apprenticeships that are specified by the Minister of Justice)

Individuals with these eligibilities for the status of residence may be provided with employment counseling and job placement services。
