Air Conditioners, TVs (CRT-based), Refrigerators/Freezers and Laundry Machines

Applicable Items

The four items that must be recycled according to the Electric Appliance Recycling Law include air conditioners, TVs (CRT-based), refrigerators/freezers and laundry machines (includes foreign, used and mail-order products). The city does not collect these four household appliances.

Recycling Procedures

These four household appliances must be recycled (for a fee) either by the retail shop of purchase (includes mail-order companies and second-hand/recycling shops selling used items; rules below apply) or the retail shop where you are buying a replacement.

Handling Procedures

1. Ask the retail shop where you are buying a replacement to handle your used item.
2. Ask the retail shop of purchase to handle your used item.
3. If you do not know where the original shop of purchase is, if they have closed down or if they are far away, ask the Electric Appliance Recycling Reception Center, with a licensed waste trucking group, to handle your used item.

Handling Fees

1.Collection/Transportation Fee + 2.Recycling Fee (tax included)

1. Fee is paid to the retail shop or pick-up company. Ask the retail shop or pick-up company about the fee.
2. Disposal fee for household appliances made by major manufacturers is 2,835yen for TVs, 3,150yen for air conditioners, 4,830yen for refrigerators/freezers and 2,520yen for laundry machines. Ask the person handling your used item about the payment method.
