Child-Rearing Support

When guardians want to leave their children in someone’s care because of their hospitalization , outpatient visits, caring for relatives, or ceremonial occasions.

As a rule, there are fees for childcare services, and the requirements and eligible age vary depending on the program. All services are in Japanese.

Temporary Childcare

When guardians can’t care for infants or children ranging from 57 days old to preschool age because of their hospitalization, outpatient visits, caring for relatives, ceremonial occasions, and being fatigued with child rearing, we, at institutions care for infants or children during the day (age standard of acceptability varies according to institutions).

Children's Short Stay

Childcare is provided overnight if the parent is unable to care for the child (15 years of age or younger) due to hospitalization, nursing, business trip or ceremonial occasion.

Post-Illness Childcare

Childcare is provided if the parent is unable to care for the child (6 months through preschool) due to work, hospitalization, nursing, childbirth or nursing care of a family member when group childcare is a problem because the child is recovering from an illness.

Year-end Childcare

Childcare is provided at the year-end (December 29/30) if the parent is unable to care for the child at home due to work or some other unavoidable situation.

Holiday Childcare

Childcare is provided on Sundays and national holidays if the parent is unable to care for the child at home due to work, nursing care of a family member, nursing, ceremonial occasion or other reasons.

Household Chores and Babysitting Services

As a rule, services are available (in Japanese) for a fee.

Child-Rearing Support Helper Dispatch Service

Helpers are dispatched to help with household chores and child-rearing for those whose physical condition is not normal before and/or after childbirth and who are unable to receive help from their family during the day.

Single-Parent Home Helper Service

Helpers are dispatched for single-parent families with a child in elementary school or younger who live in Nakano City and need help with household chores and child-rearing because the parent or child is ill. Advance registration is required for this service and when registering, such conditions as the single-parent household status and income are checked.

Single-Mother Household Independence Support Training and Education Benefits

Training and Education Benefits (40% of the entrance and tuition fees) are provided after the mother of a single-mother household completes designated courses in educational training so that she can develop skills that will lead her to better employment.

Eligibility: A mother of a single-mother household living in the city and raising a child under 20 years of age who meets all three of the following conditions:

  1. Those who receive Child-Rearing Allowance or have a similar income level
  2. Those who are not eligible to receive Training and Education Benefits through Employment Insurance
  3. Those who are acknowledged as needing training for adequate employment

If you want to be enrolled in the designated courses, you are required to make an arrangement in advance. You bring documents to child counseling counter in Nakano City Office with you 1 month prior to the start of the courses.

Mother and Child Living Support Facility

A help program working toward achieving independence, such as in child-rearing, household management and employment, is available at a specialized facility for single mothers who have difficulties such as with everyday living, employment and housing, and are raising a child under 18 years of age.

Nakano City Family Support Center

The Family Support Center program is one in which people who live or work in Nakano City and who would like to receive assistance in taking care of children (between 0 and 18 years of age) - and those who would like to offer assistance enroll as members and help, looking after the child or picking him/her up from nursery school when the parent is unable to do so due to work or errands. To use the services (day service only), registration is required in advance at the Family Support Center office within the Nakano City Social Welfare Association.

    Monday through Friday - 800yen per hour
    Saturday, Sunday, national holidays and during the year-end/New Year holidays - 1,000yen per hour
