Child Allowance

Child Allowance

This allowance is provided to those who are raising a child until the child finishes 6th Grade of elementary school (income restrictions apply).

  • For children under 3 years of age: 10,000yen per month
  • For children 3 years of age or older:
    • 1st and 2nd Child: 5,000yen per child per month
    • 3rd and Subsequent Child: 10,000yen per child per month

Child-Rearing Allowance

A monthly allowance of 13,500yen per child is provided to those who are raising a child from birth until the first March 31 after the child reaches 18 years of age, to whom any of the following conditions apply (income restrictions apply):

  1. The parents are divorced.
  2. The father or mother is deceased.
  3. It is not clear whether the father or mother is dead or alive.
  4. The father or mother has abandoned the family for one year or longer.
  5. The father or mother is incarcerated for one year or longer.
  6. There is no father (the child was born out of wedlock and the source of livelihood is separate from that of the father).
  7. The father or mother is severely disabled (Physically-Disabled Person's Handbook Level 1 or 2).

Child-Rearing Allowance

An allowance is provided to the mother or guardian raising a child from birth until the first March 31 after the child reaches 18 years of age (20 years of age for children with a middle-level disability or more), to whom any of the following conditions apply (Income restrictions apply):

  1. The parents are divorced.
  2. The father is deceased, or it is not clear whether he is dead or alive.
  3. The father has abandoned the family, or is incarcerated for one year or longer.
  4. There is no father (The child was born out of wedlock and the source of livelihood is separate from that of the father).
  5. The father is severely disabled (Physically-Disabled Person's Handbook Level 1 or 2).
  6. Special benefit (raising a child that has been acknowledged by the father in or before July 1998)

* The monthly allowance per child of 41,720yen (Complete Benefit) to 9,850yen (Partial Benefit) depends on the number of dependent family members and income.

Child-Rearing Allowance (Disability Allowance)

A monthly allowance of 15,500yen per child is provided to those raising a child under 20 years of age to whom any of the following conditions apply (income restrictions apply):

  1. A child with a Physically Disabled Person's Handbook Level 1 or 2
  2. A child with an Ai-no-Techo (Mentally Disabled Person's Handbook) Level 1 through 3
  3. A child with cerebral palsy or progressive muscular distrophy

Special Child-Rearing Allowance (Disability Allowance)

An allowance is provided to the parent or guardian raising a child under 20 years of age to whom any of the following conditions apply (income restrictions apply):

  1. A child with a Physically Disabled Person's Handbook Level 1 through 3
  2. A child with an Ai-no-Techo (Mentally Disabled Person's) Handbook Level 1 through 3
  3. For children with the same level as (1) or (2) of "inner" or "mental" disability, 50,750yen per child with a severe level of disability, and 33,800yen per child with a medium level of disability per month.

Free medical care for infants and children

Self-pay medical cost (except for cost of meals during admission) for children who have not completed a compulsory education yet in medical institutions including clinics, hospitals, and dispensing pharmacies as heath insurance treatment, is financed by Nakano City.

Medical Subsidies for Single-Parent Households

Subsidies are provided for children (until the first March 31 after the child reaches 18 years of age) of single-parent families (through death or divorce, etc.) and the single parent or guardian who fulfills eligibility requirements such as income standards, to cover part or all of the personally borne portion of medical expenses (excluding cost for meals during hospitalization) paid to medical institutions (such as clinics, hospitals and pharmacies).
