Fires, Sudden Illnesses or Serious Injuries
To report a fire, or to call an ambulance for someone who is suddenly ill or injured, simply dial 119 without an area code.
When There is a Fire
How to Call the Fire Brigade
Since the Fire Department dispatches both fire engines and ambulances, first state whether you are reporting a fire ("kaji") or calling for an ambulance ("kyukyusha").
"There is a fire." = "Kaji desu"
Since you will reach the Tokyo Fire Department when you dial 119, you should give the location starting with "Nakano City."
"XX is burning at Nakano City, XX Town, X-chome X-ban." = "Nakano-ku XX-cho X-chome XX-ban de XX ga moeteimasu"
Give the name of nearby buildings or landmarks.
"We are in front of the XX Elementary School gate." = "XX shogakko no komon no mae desu."
When You Need an Ambulance
Call an ambulance for immediate medical attention for a sudden illness or injury.
