Domestic Mail

Postage for postcards is 50yen. Postage for standard letter-size envelopes is 80yen (25 g or less) or 90yen (50 g or less). For other mail, postage is from 120yen to 1,150yen depending on the weight. There is a separate charge for express mail and registered mail.

International Mail

Postage for postcards is 70yen. Postage for envelopes vary depending on the weight and destination. There are also various types of mail services, such as sea mail, air mail and SAL mail.

Notification of Delivery while Absent (Fuzai Haitatsu Tsuchi)

If you are not at home when a parcel or registered letter is delivered, a Notification of Delivery while Absent is left at the address. Bring this notification card and some form of identification, such as your passport or foreign resident registration card to the post office written on the card to pick up your mail. You can also choose to have the mail redelivered.

Change of Address Notification

If you plan to move and complete the designated procedures at your local post office, all mail that is sent to your old address can be forwarded to your new address for one year.
